ShikwakaLAB in a few words
It is an invitation to bring life back into our imaginations, our intellects, our practices, our sensibilities, our territories, our organisations and, ultimately, our future.
How? By establishing six laboratory spaces in France and Switzerland that will facilitate dialogue between different systems of knowledge: contemporary science, indigenous knowledge, territorial practices and sensitive approaches to life. All collaborations are carried out with the free, prior and informed consent of the traditional Kogi authorities.
The purpose of this dialogue? Our commons—water, air, earth—and those essential questions that cut across humanity: health, education, governance, peace. An invitation to break free from powerlessness, to reawaken our memories as living beings, and to cultivate a new perspective.
A perspective that reconciles our human nature with the greater nature we call the environment, so that we may journey together towards
new approaches to territories and foster new narratives.
Cosmography? Anthropobiology? Global geography? A new perspective that combines the humanities, natural sciences, and sensory and descriptive approaches is emerging.
In Kogian, ‘shi’ refers to the web that covers the entire planet, but also to a thread that forms a stronger rope when woven. Shikwakala evokes the severing of these threads by roads, tunnels, dams, factories… which destabilise life and territories. This term was chosen by the Kogis for their visit to Europe in 2023.
What will we choose: the repair of the web of life, or the continued destruction of it through developments and behaviours that run counter to the principles of life?
We have added a small ‘b’ for ‘laboratory’, as experimentation in pilot areas will be the focus of the next meeting in 2026.
